In 1975 graduated from Tyumen Industrial Institute majoring in «Chemical technology of oil and gas processing».
In August 1975 V.K.Kantyshev started his professional activity as the operator of a refining unit at Omsk refinery (OAO «Sibneft»), later he was appointed the chief of refining unit AT-3,later headed the department of initial oil treatment.
1987 - 2001 - Chief Engineer, later - deputy Director of OAO «Sibneft- Omsk refinery»).
From September 2001 till January 2006 V.K. Kantyshev occupied the position of Deputy Director of the Directorate for development and technical training at ZAO «YUKOS Refining and Marketing».
Since February 2006 V.K. Kantyshev have headed the Department for Oil Processing and Petrochemistry at OAO NK «RussNeft».
Since October 2009 - Vice President for Oil Processing of OAO NK «RussNeft».
In 2009 V.K.Kantyshev was awarded the sign of "Honorary Oilmen" of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation.
